Be proven wrong

·151 words·1 min

Being a leader in the software industry is hard. It’s hard because the decisions you make impact the lives of your team, your customers, and your business. It’s even harder because you’re expected to make decisions with incomplete information.

You’re expected to make decisions with incomplete information because you’re expected to make decisions quickly. You’re expected to make decisions quickly because you’re expected to be a leader.

It’s a vicious cycle.

The best leaders I’ve worked with are the ones who are willing to be proven wrong. They’re the ones who are willing to make a decision, and then change their mind when presented with new information. They’re the ones who are willing to admit they were wrong.

The best idea wins. It doesn’t matter who it comes from. It doesn’t matter if it’s your idea.

It’s not easy to be proven wrong. But damn, is it nice to embrace it.
